Doylestown – Williams Family Law helped commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Michener Art Museum by joining in last weekend's benefit celebration "30 Years: An Evening in Black & White." The event took place on Saturday, September 15th, exactly thirty years to the day the Michener first opened its doors.
The idea for the museum came about after the Bucks County Jail closed its doors in 1985 and county commissioners, along with the Doylestown Arts Council, proposed that the jail be turned into an art museum. The "James A. Michener Arts Center" (later renamed the James A. Michener Art Museum) opened its doors in 1988 and was named for Michener, Doyletown native and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer who was deeply committed to arts and philantrhopy.
Today, the museum collects, preserves, and exhibits American art, promotes the work of regional artists of all eras and disciplines, presents a variety of special exhibitions and educational programs for the community, and hosts classes in dance, art and other creative forms of expression.
